The Judicial Consultant
National Green Tribunal

Chennai.

Your Honour,

We draw your prompt attention to our earlier email representation dated 7 sep 2020(appended below), addressed to the Khammam District WALTA Authority and to the Government of Telangana, seeking eviction of encroachments, viz.,sequel resorts , roads, and other land dumping and structures inside Lakkaram cheruvu , substantiating with official maps including Dharani maps.

we sought restoration of the lakkaram cheruvu to its original glory.  But under the active supervision of government of Telangana, we have observed that the cheruvu has been noosed around against irrigation rules and standards and against environmental standards and against Supreme Court orders.

Plz see the google earth satellite imageries below how the extinction of the huge lakkaram cheruvu is being staged as 'beautification' by condoning all the encroachments both state and private.

a) Lakkaram lake as on November 2006:
Lake is not divided and the width of lake is seen to almost full extent. however, sequel resorts already encroached the lake.

b) Lakkaram cheruvu in April 2014:
Lake has been divided thru roads/bunds and massive encroachments both state and private inside FTL boundary and buffer zone.

c) Lakkaram lake in March 2022:
Huge concretization of the lake is observed in the name of 'beautification' and 'development' thus depriving the gullible citizens of water spaces that are basic essentials of survival. North east a huge land fill inside the FTL of the lake is seen.

We hope the above has shocked the conscience of the National GreenTribunal Southern Bench, Chennai.  We urge the Tribunal to take this up promptly and order eviction of the encroachments , roads, bunds, landfills, resorts, clubs, convention halls, etc. etc. and restore the lake as a basic essential for humanity and bio diversity.
We shall assist the Tribunal as our Fundamental Duty to our country as enshrined in our Constitution of India.

The Government of Telangana is totally disconnected with the climate crisis and the existential threat that the whole world including the National Green Tribunal is trying to combat.

best
