Telangana CM KCR declares ‘all-out’ war against drug menace
Telangana CM Chandrashekar Rao declared an ‘all-out’ war against the drug menace in the state on Wednesday.
Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao declared an “all-out war” on illegal drugs, specifically the cultivation and use of cannabis (ganja) on Wednesday.
“The usage of cannabis [ganja] is on the increase. There is an urgent need to declare an all-out war against drug abuse. Before the situation goes out of hand and becomes severe, one should be on alert,” the chief minister said.
The CM instructed officials to ensure an end to gambling and the sale of illegal liquor, calling for stringent measures, including the monitoring of educational institutions, to achieve these goals.
Addressing a high-level meeting of police and excise officials, Rao instructed them to wipe out opium's illegal cultivation, usage and “stamp it down with firm feet”.
“The police and excise department officials should take a serious note of these warning bells. I have convened this high-level meeting with a lot of pain and concern. The government is ready to provide anything to you to control this,” he said.
