Nizamabad girl dies at TIMS gate after scouting beds for 2 hrs
A 25-year-old patient from Nizamabad died in an ambulance after her family failed to arrange a hospital bed for her in the city.
Hyderabad: A 25-year-old patient from Nizamabad died in an ambulance after her family failed to arrange a hospital bed for her in the city.
Identified as Sheikh Reshma of Namdevwada, she was suffering from a cough when her parents took her to MR Hospital in Nizamabad town.
"Her test Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) result came negative. However, her cough was not going away. On Tuesday, doctors suggested a CT scan. The scan showed that her right side lung was damaged. Doctors told us that she needs ventilator support as her condition are worsening," said Pradeep, a family acquaintance.
As the ventilator beds were not available in Nizamabad General Hospital, Pradeep searched on Google about the hospitals in Hyderabad. Osmania General Hospital (OGH) popped up on the screen. He contacted the hospital and was informed that there is a bed available.
As OGH doesn't take COVID 19 patients, they asked him about test reports. He told the hospital officials that she has tested negative on RAT.
"After arranging an ambulance for Rs 15,000, we started from Nizamabad at 8 pm. By 10:30 pm, we reached OGH. Doctors saw the RAT kit result and it's positive this time. The hospital refused to admit her. They said she needs to be taken to Gandhi Hospital," said Pradeep.
When they reached Gandhi Hospital, the hospital staff asked them to take her to another hospital as there were already 30 patients waiting for a ventilator beds.
"We went to Fever Hospital, but the staff again refused to admit her saying that there is no ventilator. We requested them to admit her for some time as her health is deteriorating. However, the hospital refused. Later we took her to District Hospital, King Koti. They also refused to admit her citing unavailability of bed," said Pradeep.
They then took her to TIMS hospital at Gachibowli at around 12:40 am. "But the hospital said they don't have a ventilator bed available. Hospital officials however said they can admit her to the oxygen ward. Till the time we were completing formalities, she died in the ambulance at the gate of TIMS," said Pradeep.
