Did you know the Hyderabad Police Commissioner holds one of the most powerful posts due to the magisterial and other legal powers vested by not only the BNSS but also by the City Police Act?

Hyderabad Police Commissioner C. V. Anand has advised rival factions led by Nampally MLA Majid Hussain of AIMIM and Congress leader Feroze Khan to moderate their language and avoid provocative actions.

In his role as an Additional District Magistrate, Anand held a court session under Section 107 of the erstwhile Criminal Procedure Code (now Section 126 of BNSS, the new criminal procedure code). AIMIM MLA Majid Hussain, Feroz Khan, and their supporters appeared before him following warrants issued in response to recent conflicts.

Anand highlighted that clashes between the two factions have escalated since the close Assembly elections in Nampally constituency last December, creating challenges for the police in maintaining order. Recently, the groups engaged in a street brawl over road-laying work, requiring police intervention, arrests, and case filings.

“To manage the situation, we issued warrants under Section 126 BNSS and held a hearing in my court,” Anand explained. “Both groups were shown footage of their recent clashes and reminded that democracy requires space for peaceful coexistence of ruling and opposition factions. They shared grievances, with each side describing how the other disrupted their activities,” the Commissioner noted.

The session resulted in an agreement on protocols for future conduct, including notifying the police of planned events to prevent clashes. “They were advised to control their language, which has been fueling tensions. The case is scheduled for another hearing in two months,” Anand added.

The conflict between the factions peaked on October 7 when supporters clashed during an inspection of road repair work at Feroz Gandhi Nagar in Humayun Nagar.
