Stop Releasing of Water from Himayath sagar.

Dear Minister for Municipal Administration & Urban Development,

Sub: Removing water instead of removing encroachments and roads from the FTL of twin reservoirs- Condemning the release of 700 cusecs (around 20000 litres per second) of water from Himayath sagar by lifting 2 gates -

Ref: Officially demarcated encroachments in Reservoir(enclosed) - One of the enclosures submitted to the NGT in OA 103/2022 (SZ) Chennai (Dr Lubna Sarwath vs Govt of Telangana)

We urge you to stop releasing of water from Himayath sagar. It is understood from your press release and media sources that 2 gates of Himayath sagar reservoir are lifted and 700 cusecs of water is being released into Esi river/Musi river.

The questions to be answered are the following:

1- When the reservoir has over 100 encroachments inside the reservoir how can the reservoir be claimed to be nearing full capacity without removing the encroachments?

2- There is a case pending in the National green tribunal OA No. 103/2022 (Dr Lubna Sarwath vs Govt of Telangana & others) for eviction of encroachments from both the reservoirs Osman sagar and Himayath sagar.

It has been submitted and appealed in the petition that waters are being released without removing the encroachments. What is your reply in the case?

3- Is it not a deceit on the people of Hyderabad and Telangana when potable waters are being removed while it is the encroachments that should be removed?

4- Is it not true that a report was submitted in 2017 to the government of Telangana that over 45% of Himayath sagar's area is shrunk and reduced? What was your action taken?

 5- Is it not in the knowledge of authorities that fresh BT roads have been laid into the FTL of Himayath sagar and Osman sagar and fresh constructions have come up inside the FTL of the reservoirs.

6- If all the encroachments are removed , and reservoir maintenance of removing silt done, and the original area of the reservoir is restored the holding capacity of reservoir would have increased and today two gates would not have to be lifted. Is this not true?

7- Is it not true that many people in the HMDA/GHMC area across all sections of society, do not receive the prescribed 135 litres per person per day that is a standard for decent hygiene living?

As such we urge you to give an answer to the public;

to immediately take up the task of restoration of original area of both the reservoirs.

Hence, stop release of the waters for which we hyderabadis in many parts of the city do not get prescribed water of 135 litres per person per day municipal water even to this day on a daily basis.
