The Standing Committee of the GHMC   cleared two major road widening proposals to provide relief to people from traffic congestion on existing roads.

One proposal is to widen the existing road between *Ali Cafe at Amberpet and Nalla Cheruvu lake of Uppal, to a width of 150 feet. The road runs along the Musi via Patel Nagar STP, Nagole Metro Station, till Nalla Cheruvu of Uppal.*

Once widened, the five-kilometre road is expected to ease traffic on the busy thoroughfare between Amberpet and Uppal via Ramanthapur, which is set for major overhaul in view of the elevated corridor being planned on the stretch as part of the SRDP project.

Traffic tedium is already a regular issue all the way between Amberpet and Boduppal, which is set to worsen once the flyover works begin. Widening of the alternative road will help ease traffic jams on the stretch, officials hope.

The existing road is only 30 feet wide, and increasing the width by five times might require acquisition of 148 properties, the proposal mentioned.
