Heart Warming: AP girl escapes child marriage and tops intermediate examination

She said she wants to become an IPS officer and work towards the abolition of child marriages.

S Nirmala from Adoni Mandal in Kurnool district scored 421 out of 440 in her Intermediate first-year examination after narrowly escaping child marriage.

Her impoverished parents, who have four daughters, three of whom are already married, want to marry off Nirmala as well, citing financial difficulties.

Nirmala approached Adoni MLA Y. Sai Prasad Reddy, who, with the help of District Collector G Srujana, rescued her from child marriage and admitted her to Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya in Aspari.

She seized the opportunity and proved herself by topping the examination. She also scored 537 marks in her SSC last year.
